5 reasons why it is most effective to learn a language in the country where it is spoken.

1. Expand your vocabulary: Going into a store, ordering a restaurant, taking the bus; those are all language learning opportunities when you are living in a place that speaks the language you are learning.

2.Talk like a local: What you will learn in books and from teachers often isn’t what you need to know or understand for everyday life. Live in a place where the language is spoken, and you’ll know all the slang. That’s the fun part, after all.

3. Pick up the accent: For many people, acquiring the proper accent is the hardest part of learning a new language. If you are living in a place where the language is spoken, you will be around it all the know and know how it is supposed to sound, which will make it easier for you to adopt.

4. Making friends: Friends can make the best teachers, because you feel most comfortable around them, even when you are always learning. Having friends who only speak the language you are learning significantly accelerates the process.

5. Get the culture: Language is closely tied to culture, as mentioned before, and by living in a place where the language is spoken natively, you also will pick up on the customs, traditions and lifestyle of the place.
